Charles E. Burgess papers, 1942-1954.

Reminiscences (1951) by Burgess, a teacher, farmer, and banker in Minnesota and North Dakota, of his family's pioneering experiences, chiefly from 1864 to 1900. He discusses farming and pioneer life in Minnesota's Mower and Otter Tail counties; expeditions against the Dakota Indians by General Alfred Sully (1864-1865) and Major Marcus A. Reno and General Alfred H. Terry (1876); the Northfield bank robbery by the James and Younger brothers (1876); and his rural schoolteaching career in Otter Tail County (1880s).
